Application Tips & Tricks!
- Schedule a meeting with your school’s pre-law advisor. Advisors can help give you a general sense of the law school application process, especially for 1st-gen law students who are unfamiliar with the process.
- Start preparing for the LSAT at least 3-months before taking the exam. Once you start scoring in your ideal range, register for the exam!
- Research law schools. Be intentional about which schools you apply to. Location and school culture matter much more than in undergrad!
- Provide your recommenders with as much detail as possible about what you want them to highlight in their letter and remind them frequently of the deadline.
- Edit your resume to fit 1-2 pages.
- Try to write supplemental essays that can work for multiple prompts. These include Why ____? + Scholarship Essays + Diversity Statement + Character and Fitness Addendum. This will save you so much time!
- Submit your applications as early as you can because law schools do rolling admissions! Most people submit by the end of October—November, which is a good target to keep in mind. That being said, it’s better to take more time and submit an application that you’re proud of, instead of rushing and submitting something of lower quality.
- Good luck! You got this 🙂
